Despite what companies may tell you, there is no magic product currently available that can completely eliminate fine lines or wrinkles from your face. However, some ingredients have been proven mildly effective in research and trials.
If you are shopping for a wrinkle cream, make sure you read the labels to find at least one of the following ingredients:
Vitamin A (retinol)
Tretinoin, a vitamin-A derivative, is the only FDA-approved treatment for wrinkles. Retinol, a less potent form of the same vitamin, has been widely used in wrinkle creams for the past ten years. In the right amounts, it can be effective in treating deeper lines and age spots. However, the FDA warns that OTC products are not standardized, and many creams may not contain enough retinol to produce results.
Antioxidants such as vitamin A work by neutralizing free radicals, the oxygen molecules that “attack” skin cells and cause the skin to age.

Hydroxy acids
Hydroxy acids are second in the list of ingredients that have shown some success in treating aging skin. Alpha hydroxy acids (AHA) are synthetic versions of acids obtained from milk, sugar cane, and some fruits (such as lemons and sour apples).
Hydroxy acids stimulate the production of collagen and act as exfoliants, promoting the shedding of dead cells and stimulating the growth of smooth-looking new skin. They can also help diminish acne scars, prevent blackheads, and increase skin hydration. AHA can produce mild skin irritation, itching or burning, and a heightened sensitivity to the sun. Those who are using AHA are encouraged to wear sunblock at all times.
