Whether we want to do it for a class reunion, an impending date, or simply out of the desire to look better, nearly all of us have tried to shed ten pounds at one time or another.  We want the weight to come off as quickly as possible.  We’ve turned to pills, shakes, supplements, and crash diets, lured by the glorious promises of, “Works while you sleep!” or “Lose a dress or pants size by this weekend!”  But, as anyone who’s ever tried this knows, it rarely works.  And if it does, you’re a virtual zombie from lack of food and overexertion.  The majority of the time, losing that ten pounds in a hurry is a losing battle, leaving us wondering why we ever bothered in the first place (and grimacing as we suck in to button our slacks).
