With more than 4,000 cases ready to go to court, and after being pulled from
the market on Sept. 30, 2004,
it would appear that the idea of Vioxx returning to the market is a pipedream.
Well, it’s true.
According to Raymond Gilmartin’s recorded deposition, Merck and Co.
along with the FDA are considering doing just that.
Vioxx: Just add Warning Labels?
Vioxx is one of the NSAID drugs (non steroidal anti inflammatory drug) other
examples of NSAID drugs are ibuprofen and naproxen.
Since Merck and Co. voluntarily removed the drug from the market; it stands
to reason that with proper label warnings, the FDA may agree to put it back on
the market
The FDA points out that many other NSAID drugs similar to VIOXX have the
same 50%increased risk of causing heart attacks and strokes, yet they are on
the market with warning labels.
