These tips may save your life if you are a victim of stalking from an ex-lover.
Do you have an obsessed ex who just can’t seem to let go? Is this person following you, calling constantly and/or making threats? With a few practical tips, you can survive a crazy, stalker ex. First, it’s important to be able to recognize that you are victim. If your ex-lover makes unannounced “pop-up” visits, mysteriously knows your whereabouts and /or threatens to harm you, you have a legitimate cause for concern and should take all precautions. Never believe that your ex is unable or incapable of harming you. Stalking is a serious crime.
Get a restraining order
Go to the police department and file the necessary paperwork to secure a restraining order. It is important that the proper authorities have your complaint on record. In order to file a substantial complaint, document the occasions when you were harassed. Record threats made to you. Document what was said and when it was said. Write your notes in a simple straight-forward tone. Take pictures of any evidence of physical abuse. Be sure to call the police after any threatening confrontations and keep a copy of all police reports. These reports will help you when you seek the restraining order. Keep your documentation in a locked box away from your home. Get an attorney, and tell her where the documents are located. You may also confide in a close friend.
Tell others about your stalker ex
Rely on friends and family members. They will serve as a valuable support system. Tell family and friends not to disclose any information to your ex. However, make sure that at least one close friend has your contact information. If you have children, tell them not to go anywhere with your ex. Likewise, remove your ex’s name from any documents allowing him/her to pick-up or transport your children. Tell the school secretary and your child’s principal that this person is not to have contact with your child. In some cases, it may be necessary to tell your employer about the situation. Alert building security that you have been a victim of stalking. Neighbors should also be on the lookout for your ex. Show them a picture of the person, and ask your neighbors to contact the police and you, if your ex is in the area.
