Mall Shopping Strategies For Savvy Shoppers

by Lee Ann Sontheimer Murphy September 27, 2005

Shoppers planning to hit the nearest mall for a shopping spree can use some basics to make the most of the excursion.

Best Times To Shop

Shopping for something special? Take a day off and hit the mall on a weekday. Crowds will be light and sales clerk less busy. In a less hectic atmosphere, shoppers can enjoy the ultimate experience. Clerks have time to be more helpful, stores are usually well stocked, and less competition is present.

Go early. Whether it's a weekday or Saturday, crowds increase throughout the day. Hit the stores as early as possible. Most people are also more alert in the morning; clerks are also fresh and not yet fatigued by a long workday.

More Mall Tips

Pick the best parking spot possible. If the mall offers valet service, use it. If not, park as close to the central door as possible or near a favorite department store. Expectant and new mothers should utilize the favored parking that many malls offer them.

Pick up parcels later. Leave bags in store checkpoints if possible. Ask at the customer service desk if this is possible. Some malls have a checkpoint where bags can be left and retrieved later. Don’t burden yourself with too much to carry.

Take a break. Don’t shop until you drop. Take time out to enjoy a cool drink or just get off your feet.
