With the economy stagnant many families are searching for ways to save. Whether your family needs to cut corners or have extra money for neccessities, there are several almost painless ways to save.
Track the use of cash. It's easy to spend but not as easy to remember where the money went. Jot down each cash purchase and add to see just where the cash is spent. Include every small purchase - things like vending machines, lottery tickets, a pack of cigarettes, and soft drinks. Add up each day and see where some of the little costs could be cut or even eliminated.
Don't make impulse buys. Whether it's a pair of shoes on sale or a new DVD player, unless buying the item has been a plan, don't succumb. Shop smart and compare prices on the items you do need and forget the rest. Impulse buys often lead to regret later so just don't buy on impulse.
Plan credit card use. Don't use plastic for every little thing or use the card to buy groceries. Decide ahead of time what purchases will be credit and what won't. Stick to that plan - no matter what. Save the credit cards for planned purchases or emergencies.
