It is never too early to start preparing for Christmas. In fact, December 26th is the most perfect time to begin your preparations. Now you’re probably saying “Oh, she’s insane! Doesn’t she have a life?” Well, yes, I do. More importantly, I have a budget. Planning ahead allows me to do more with my money and it also allows me to avoid the frenzied post Thanksgiving rush found in every department and specialty store in America. Approaching your Christmas preparations in an orderly and methodical manner will allow you to celebrate in a grand manner, within your budget, and also enjoy the season in a serene and worry free manner. Following are a few suggestions on how you can prepare for a beautiful Christmas without all the hassles of last minute shopping.
Making a List
The first thing you should do is create a gift list. No, not a list of everything that you want for Christmas, but a list of things that your family and friends might want. The easiest way that I’ve found to do this is to create a file on my computer and update it regularly. Simply create a text file containing the names of everyone to whom you plan to give Christmas Gifts. Then just pay attention throughout the year. Whenever someone mentions something they would like, you can add it to your list under their name. For example, your mother mentions how she and your father have discovered the joys of stir fry. Then you notice that they don’t have a wok. Voila! Perfect gift! This applies for homemade gifts as well. For example, if you’re planning on crocheting an afghan for your sister in law, make a note of her favorite color and/or the colors she wears most often. Another example might be mittens for your grandchildren. You’ll want to know what size those mittens should be, so get some paper and crayons and have the little dears trace their hands for what they think is just refrigerator artwork.
