The thought of reading through the entire Bible to many people is daunting at best. Here are ways to make it enjoyable and not a chore. Find out how to set up your own Bible reading plan and you can begin immediately!
Where Do I Start? It Seems Overwhelming!
When thinking of reading the entire Bible, many people envision starting at the front and going right through to the last verse in Revelation. Immediately the thought of doing such a thing self-sabotages the reader from even beginning the endeavor a lot of times.
For many people, the best way to read through is certainly not from cover to cover. Others will find that cover to cover reading actually does work better for their individual tastes and needs. Think it over and decide which way may work better for you.
Who Wrote the Bible? How Big is It?
The books of the Bible were written over a stretch of time that spanned fifteen or sixteen centuries. There were about forty people putting the words of God into written form. The Holy Bible contains sixty-six books divided into the Old Testament and New Testament. The word "testament" means covenant or promise. The Catholic Bible contains some additional chapters called the Apocrypha.
According to a study published by Deaf Missions, the Old Testament has 929 chapters while the New Testament has 260. If you are planning to be very precise in reading through the Bible, the 31,103 individual verses (that number also from the same study by Deaf Missions) divides out to 85 verses per day if you want to read through the Bible in one year's time.
