The Luxor Hotel and Casino: Egypt in Las Vegas, Nevada

by Anton Kreitzer June 21, 2005

You can see it from miles away. It’s the slender white light that reaches into the black night above the Nevada desert, like a beacon, inviting you to come lose your money. The source of this mystic beam is the Luxor, a shiny black pyramid at the end of the strip that houses one of Las Vegas’ most entertaining Casinos.

History

One of the earliest mega-themed casinos in Las Vegas, the Luxor opened in 1993, a giant replica of the Sphinx (nose intact) keeping watch. Exploring the Luxor is a delight, as the Egyptian-themed décor offers plenty of surprises.

Gambling

Gambling at the Luxor is a blast. Tables are plentiful, with a wide range of minimum bets. On the casino floor, beneath the vaulted ceilings of the hollow pyramid, you’ll find slots, blackjack, roulette, and craps, as well as many other exciting games. The size of the room means you won’t be overpowered by cigarette smoke, and there’s a welcoming calmness in the midst of the excitement. Besides, if you lose at the tables, you get to tell everyone that you were E-gypped. Get it?

Attractions

The Luxor is home to one of the hottest clubs in Vegas. At Ra, you can dance the night away, as resident DJs spin house, dance and hip hop music. Or check out the Blue Man Group performing their live show nightly. Their mix of art, music, and performance creates a unique show and an incredible experience. Take in a film at the IMAX theater, or explore the history of Egypt at the museum devoted to King Tut.

If you’re looking for the mystique of the Egyptian desert in the heart of the Nevada desert, make a reservation at the Luxor hotel.
