Air Purifiers are becoming a common appliance in many homes across the United
States because air in our homes is becoming
more dangerous to breathe than the contaminated air outside. Indoor air quality
is one of the main environmental concerns. Because our homes are properly
insulated and sealed so tightly the particles in the air stay inside the house
and we breathe the dust, smoke and chemical fumes. Poor air quality indoors is
thought to be one of the major triggers of asthma.
Ensure Clean Air in Your Home
Ionic air purifiers are an electric air purifier that helps trap harmful
particles and clean the air in your house. Seeing the price and convenience of
the ionic air purifiers a lot of people find this type of purifier to be the
best choice for their home. These purifiers are energy efficient and the rods
only have to be cleaned occasionally. There are no expensive filters to
purchase; these features make the ionic purifier attractive.
Three Types of Ionic Purifiers
Ionic air purifiers utilize three different techniques of cleaning, they
attempt to charge particles then deposit them on metal plates of on the floor.
The purifiers come in three different forms: Electrostatic Precipitator,
Negative Ionizer and Media-Charged Filter.
Electrostatic Precipitators work by charging particles with a negative
charge as they come into the purifier. They have positively charged metal
plates that attract the particles. The plates need to be cleaned to remove the
particles.
Negative Ionizers clean positively charged ions such as dust, fumes and
smoke. They emit them to the ground, the particles then must be vacuumed or
they will be re-introduced into the air.
Media Charged Filters have a charged filter that collects particles by being
oppositely charge to the ions. It is similar to a HEPA filter but tends to lose
its efficiency a lot quicker and needs to be changed more frequently.
Air Purifiers and Ozone
Ionic air purifiers will produce ozone, which tends to have an unpleasant
smell at first. Electrostatic Precipitators and Media Charged Filter produce
less ozone and clean the particles out of the air instead of causing them to
stick on the floor like the Negative Ionizers. So the air will stay cleaner and
have a more pleasant smell.
Ionic air purifiers are effective in removing all kinds of particles from
the air while neutralizing viruses, bacteria, smoke and fumes that circulate
through the room. They also remove allergens like pet dander and dust mites.
Having an air purifier in your home can help combat some types of allergies and
allow you to breathe cleaner air.
