Going back to university to get a degree can be tough if you have bills to
pay. Let’s face it, are you going to get a degree for yourself, or are you
going to put the kids through school and pay the mortgage? That’s why getting a
degree by distance learning is becoming more popular for many working people
with responsibilities.
With distance learning you can get a degree without having to give up your
job and without having to go into debt, as degrees by distance learning are
becoming much more affordable.
How Much and How?
In my case, I spent just under $10,000 over two and a half years to get a
degree, a graduate diploma of journalism, from the University
of Southern Queensland. This was
all done via distance learning while I continued to work fulltime. I paid for
the degree in eight installments over the two and a half years I studied by
distance learning.
I received my assignments and study material through the mail and could
interact with lecturers and fellow students online. I could also download
lectures and seminars that had been taught on campus.
At first, I was a little nervous about using distance learning to get a
degree because I thought it would be too impersonal and I wouldn’t be able to
get the feedback and advice I needed, I actually found distance learning to be
a great way to get a degree.
The University of Southern
Queensland
The University of Southern
Queensland’s distance learning center, and my
faculty, provided me with very professional study packs that always arrived in
a timely fashion. In addition, the feedback on my assignments was detailed and
I could view my grades online so I didn’t have to wait for the mail.
The distance learning outreach center and student guild also get in regular
contact with me, so I felt that I was part of the university while I worked
towards my degree.
Although it was hard work to get a degree, distance learning provided a way
for me to continue my education while still paying my mortgage. For that, I
would recommend distance learning to anyone.
