by Aisha C. Saeed July 25, 2005

Voted in 2001 as one of the best places in the world to live Vancouver, Canada is one of the most beautiful places on earth and was home to the latest Winter Olympics. If you are lucky enough to take a vacation to this beautiful city be sure to not miss the following attractions.

Stanley Park:

This is the third largest park in North America with over 8 million visitors per year. Whether you skate through, drive through, take the tram, or walk it, it is a stunning display of nature at its best. Be sure to visit the aquarium and take photos of the breathtaking view at Prospect Point.

Grouse Mountain:

In the summer go hiking to the top where you will find bears, sky lines, and nature shows. In the summer go skiing or take a sleigh ride. This is a year round fun vacation destination. One side note- do not take your dog up the mountain, there are roaming bears who will not harm you but have a taste for dogs.

Capilano Suspension Bridge:

This lengthy suspension bridge is not for those afraid of heights. But if you are, and can overcome your fear you are in for a beautiful view of the Capilano River Canyon. Afterwards have a picnic at the park just outside the bridge.

Gastown:

A quaint and lovely town particularly during the spring and summer when the flowers and trees are at their peak blooms. Admire the architecture and don’t miss the historic green clock in the center of town.

Old Spaghetti Factory:

While in Gastown don’t miss this wonderful restaurant with very pleasant décor and unforgettable food and affordable prices.

Banana Leaf restaurant:

This Thai and Malaysian fusion is fantastic with all the usual dishes and several of their own. Located in downtown Vancouver, a trip to Vancouver is incomplete without a meal at this fantastic eatery.

Yaletown:

If you like shopping in boutiques and sipping coffee in cafés be sure to check this artsy and trendy part of Vancouver.

Robson Street:

Perhaps the most famous street in Vancouver because of its very European look. Maybe this is why this street has been filmed in many movies that are based in Europe. Trendy stores and boutiques as well as wonderful restaurants abound here.

Dr. Sun Yat-Sen’s Classical Chinese Garden:

Designed after an ancient Chinese garden this is a peaceful and beautiful place to visit.

Granville Island:

If you have time to spare then do not miss this. Unique stores, arts and crafts are abounding in this former industrial site.
