ATT Wireless: Now Cingular

by Kevin Van Horn August 04, 2005

ATT Wireless- No More

Wireless technology has become the standard means of communications today. In a nutshell, wireless means no cables-no cords. ATT Wireless was the third largest wireless telephone company in the United States. I use the word was, because in October of 2004, ATT Wireless was bought out by Cingular.

ATT Wireless and Cingular- The Merger

The merger between ATT Wireless and Cingular has resulted in the largest wireless phone service in the United States. Many people worried that ultimately, the merger would result in poor service and loss of calling plans and deals. Cingular has been very accommodating to former ATT Wireless customers and if you type the internet address for ATT Wireless, you will be automatically redirected to the Cingular Wireless website.

How much was it worth?

Amazingly, Cingular paid more than twice the amount for the purchase of ATT Wireless. The total venture cost Cingular over 40 million dollars. I guess that is the price you pay to be America’s number one wireless service provider.
