Displays of personal collections tend to be an objective challenge due to
the fact that we think if we spread them around a room or the house they will
be more enjoyable. However, the reverse is usually truer. When a collection is
grouped together it has more of an impact.
Odd or Even?
If possible, an odd number of groupings will also add to the appeal of your
display(s). It's true to form that three will look nicer than four, five nicer
than six and so on. Keep this in mind especially when decorating a mantle. The
mantle by necessary design is flat and uniform therefore the unevenness of the
display will create balance and charm.
Mix and Match?
Display groupings are normally defined by object design and size but it can
be what you want it to be too. Creating a theme using a display as a starting
point can be a very pleasant way to incorporate other similar ideas into your
personal decor. For example, a collection of small lighthouse snow globes
paired with art from the sea is very appealing for a bathroom theme. Using
pretty shell shaped soaps is an inexpensive way to add to the themed
collections on display.
Using What You Like Doesn't Have to Break the Bank
A good idea for budget collections is to group items together that are the
same color. They don't have to be in the same genre at all. A collection can
consist of brightly colored bottles as a centerpiece on a table with a pretty
tablecloth or mismatched vases would be a very nice touch. Colors that are
opposites on the color wheel would also be engaging. For example, blue and
yellow or red and green.
Finally, Do It For You
Company coming or not, it doesn't matter and In the end, the objective is
touched with the subjective. There is no help for that and that is okay. The
most important thing is for you to enjoy your accomplishments and that is
always a recipe for a feeling of success.
