Ghost Ranch, in Abiquiu, New
Mexico, is a great place to get away from it all.
Without TVs or phones, guests are left with no choice but to enjoy the
incredible views of Georgia O’Keefe’s country, including the Blue Mesa,
Pedernol, which she painted so many times.
What You Can Do
What’s to do at Ghost Ranch? So much! And at the same time, so little. The
business of life goes away on the ranch. Once you’re there, you are encouraged
to park your car and leave it. Walking is the main source of transportation. The
staff offers classes such as watercolor painting, yoga, pottery, or astronomy. You can take a high
ropes class, go kayaking, search for amazing artifacts on a dig, or study meditation.
Or you can skip the classes altogether and relax in your room or cabin. In your
free time, there are many beautiful trails ranging from an easy stroll to a
hard day’s hike. You can ride horses, ride bikes, or just lounge by the pool.
Facilities
Meals are served three times a day. There is a small gift shop, anthropology
and paleontology museums (including a real dinosaur), a meditation labyrinth,
and ok, I admit that there is a room in the main office where you can find
internet access if you must. Massage therapy is also available.
You can see Ghost Ranch in the first City Slickers movie - they left a cabin
on the property from the set. It is truly a place to get away from it all, to
listen to the quiet.
Nearby Attractions
Surrounding attractions include a monastery which you can visit, Georgia
O'Keefe's house, a natural amphitheater, and many beautiful views of the mesas
in the area. Santa Fe and Albuquerque
are both short drives away.
