What is a Health Maintenance Organization (HMO)?

Who Should Choose an HMO?

Members may visit their primary care doctor as often as they need to in exchange for the HMO monthly premium plus a small co-pay per visit or prescription. Most health and wellness services are covered, like acupuncture, check ups, immunizations, etc. HMOs only take on employer groups, but occasionally a few will accept individuals as members. Those who visit the doctor often will benefit from this plan as well as women and children who need regular check ups.

Make sure that your chosen HMO has a primary care doctor and facility that is convenient to your home in case of an emergency.
