As the saying says, “bigger is not always better.” Do not select your web host merely on the size of their business. In addition, do not overlook a good web host only because they are not a very large operation. There are factors to be considered aside from the size of the company. Instead find out how long a web host has been in business. This can provide you with some idea of the stability of this company. Find out if the owner of the company has ever changed, or if the company has the original owners. In your research of companies, you may find some small or medium sized hosts that do a good business and have been in business for several years.

Know More About a Potential Host

When you locate one or several potential hosts, you need to do some further investigating. Ask a potential hosting company some presales questions. This serves several purposes. By asking questions, you can learn some important information that you need to know. You can also interact with the staff to see how friendly and knowledgeable they appear to be. In addition you can discover how easy or difficult it is to reach hosting staff and how long it takes for them to respond to inquiries.

There are many questions you can ask a potential host. Let us take a look at a few. Find out if they have redundant power for their servers. Does their data center have a generator? You will want to know that if there is ever an interruption in power at the facility, that your data can be protected and that your website will experience little or no downtime. Remember, anytime your website is down you may be losing business.

You may also want to ask what security methods they use on their network. In addition, ask what security they have in place at their data centers. It is important to know that your data and the hosting equipment is safe and secure. You will also want to ask if they utilize fire suppression equipment. Again this will provide you with more peace of mind knowing the hosting equipment is protected.
