5 Offbeat Places to Meet Women

by Marie-Helene Lebeault August 15, 2005

#3:Dance hall or dance lessons

This one should be obvious. Most women enjoy couples dancing and you don’t need to be a couple to take lessons. Sure you may end up dancing with your grandma but that could prove endearing to the right girl. If you have two left feet or don’t enjoy dancing, try to remember that dancing gets you close to a woman in the most primal way and that for the duration of the dance, she’s a captive audience.

Strategy: This one is easy. Sign-up. Show up. Practice. Don’t paw or grope.  Once you’ve danced with the same woman and feel comfortable talking (read listening) to her, you may suggest going dancing to practice or to watch professional dancers for tips. Tango would be an excellent choice.

# 4: Self-help seminars

Most women love seminars, especially self-help or spiritual. If you’re not really into it, don’t go. If you think you can stand a couple hours of touchy-feeling subject matter, hop to it. You might actually learn something.

Strategy: Again an easy one. Look for seminars that include group or pair workshops. Choose a subject you enjoy or think you should know more about so you won’t get bored. You need to pay attention so you’ll be able to discuss the topic.

# 5: Volunteer

Women are natural caregivers and they appreciate a man who can give back to the community.

Strategy: Choose an activity you enjoy. Here are some examples:

  • Coaching a local sports team
  • After-school programs
  • School outings or fundraisers
  • Soup kitchens
  • Hospitals
  • Senior homes or activities
  • Local festivals or events

Alternately, you could offer to teach free workshops that help or empower women. Just don’t restrict access to women or it’ll look fishy.

  • Finances: budget making, tax returns, investing, retirement planning
  • Minor home or car repairs
  • Self defense
  • Home safety
