Whether you take a break every few hours or stop for lunch, eating at the mall doesn’t have to wreck an ongoing diet. Make smart choices that satisfy and fuel energy without adding to the waistline.
Snack choices include hot chocolate; rich and satisfying without packing too many calories, OJ smoothies, fruit and yogurt parfaits, or a whole-wheat pretzel.
Lunch choices that will pack plenty of power to boost energy include a bean burrito (not beef and bean, however), a tuna sandwich on whole wheat bread, sushi, or even pizza. Choose a single slice. Best options are vegetable toppings, light cheese, and a whole-wheat crust.
Stay hydrated with water. Stash a bottle in a purse or shoulder bag so shoppers won’t become dehydrated.
Shop with a friend if possible and if leaving the mall after dark, watch for security to oversee safe passage back to a vehicle.
