Fish the Boat Basin
During the fall, the boat basin is open to fishermen who’d like to land a gigantic salmon. It’s a great thrill to watch these magnificent fish as you wait for them to hit your lure or take the bait. There are a wide variety of other fish species in these waters as well. Allow kids to fish from the docks where they will catch perch. Bait your hook with sand shrimps and cast it near the pilings to catch larger perch.
In spring, you can fish for herring in the boat basin. To catch them, you will need a small hook, or rig several small hooks to your line. When the herring bite, chances are you will catch more than one. Bring along a bucket in which to put your catch. Herring are usually between six and nine inches in length and the daily catch limit is ten pounds per person. Herrings travel in huge schools and are fun to catch. At certain times of the year, they are so plentiful that they saturate the complete boat basin.
