Training Pants

There are different choices when it comes to training pants. You can use disposable pants like “pull-ups” or go with the good old “thick cloth” underwear. It depends on personal preference. Some experienced parents think the cloth pants work better because the child can feel the wetness easier (although they are not as convenient as the disposables). Whatever works for your individual child is best for you. Diapers can be used at night while mastering daytime training. Graduating to big-kid pants can be exciting for a child who is getting the hang of the toilet training thing. Buy underwear that is fun to wear can help motivate children to continue going to the bathroom on their own.

Toilet training is definitely a procedure. It takes longer for some children than others. There are undoubtedly going to be setbacks and parents need to be patient and understanding when these occurrences happen. Don’t punish your child for accidents; this goes with the territory. In order to assist your child in the process you must stay positive and be supportive. When your child has mastered the daytime toilet routine you can start to introduce nighttime training. Nighttime can be more difficult so you need to start gradually and keep it a positive experience. When your child does stay dry or goes to the potty when they are supposed to then you need to praise them and congratulate them. If they receive encouragement they are more likely to keep it up. Letting your child know you are proud of them and that they are doing a good job will boost their confidence too!
