One Hot Mama: How to Feel Attractive During Pregnancy

by Rita Templeton May 31, 2005

Stay within your recommended weight gain range.

This is an especially tough one for those of us who just love food. “Eating for two” sounds fabulously enticing, but unfortunately, it doesn’t mean eating enough for two adults. A lot of women (me included) use pregnancy as an excuse to chow down on whatever strikes us, whenever we want, and blame it on cravings. (“Hmm, the craving for that pint of ice cream I just downed in one sitting must be due to a calcium deficiency.”) I’m not going to lie – it’s fun to throw discretion to the wind and just be a pig for nine months. But you’ll ultimately feel, and look, a lot better if you stick to a relatively healthy and well-balanced diet and gain within your recommended range. As a general rule, you should gain between 25 and 35 pounds during pregnancy. A little extra is okay, but a lot extra only serves to make you feel miserable and kick yourself for having to have those late-night chili cheese fries.
