Framing Your Web Pages

by Scott Nesbitt August 08, 2005

How Many Is Too Many?

Theoretically, you can add as many frames to a Web page as you want. However, you should only add between two and four at the very most. Anything more becomes quite unsightly. I once saw a Web page divided into dozens of tiny frames. It looked like a checkerboard. All these frames did nothing for the Web page. When using frames, try to balance form with function. Use only what you need and nothing more.

Adding frames to your Web pages can give them an added bit of pizzazz. If created properly and with accessibility in mind, frames can also enhance the browsing experience of visitors to your Web page.
