Being on bed rest is a perfect excuse to hire someone for something. We’ve all dreamed about it before: having a maid or a gardener or a butler or a nanny. Well, now’s the time! If you can afford it, hiring help is a great way to manage things. A tip: if you’re on bed rest in the summertime, hire a high school or college kid to take care of a few things. They often won’t charge as much as a “real” service, and most of the time, will do a great job. But be appreciative of your hired help … as tempting as a little silver bell sounds, it may not be the best idea to ring it whenever you need your pillows fluffed. And don’t even think about renaming someone “Jeeves.”
Pregnancy is trying enough without being on bed rest. It can be a daunting prospect, but it’s necessary, so you may as well make the best of it. Use the time to do things you wouldn’t normally get to do. Perhaps most importantly of all, use the time to connect with your baby. Remember that you’re doing this to give your baby the very best care possible, even at the expense of your normal lifestyle – it’s the first of many sacrifices you’ll inevitably make on this child’s behalf. Feel and cherish each kick, jab, and roll, because in the grand scheme of things, even months of bed rest are just a drop in the bucket.
