Business Process Management The term Business Process Management (or BPM) refers to a set of activities which organizations can perform to either optimize their business processes or adapt them to new organizational needs. As these activities are usually aided by software tools, the term BPM is synonymously used to refer to the software tools themselves.

Business Process Overhead Business process overhead is the amount of resources used by an organization just to maintain existence. Overhead costs are usually measured in monetary terms, but non-monetary overhead is possible in the form of time required to accomplish tasks.
Examples of business process overhead include the payment of rent on the office space a business occupies, the electricity bill to power the lights in the office, and to some degree, the wages of the personnel working in that office.
Business Process Modeling Business Process Modeling (BPM) is an activity performed by business analysts within a company. Analysts use BPM tools to model both the current state of an enterprise and the intended future state. To move from the current state to the future state may or may not require IT developments, although that is common. Change management programmes are also required to put the new processes into practice. With advances in technology, the vision of BPM models becoming fully executable (and capable of round-trip engineering) is coming closer to reality. Supporting technologies include Unified Modeling Language (UML), model-driven architecture, and service-oriented architecture.
